What is Porlex Hand Grinder?

Porlex is a coffee hand grinder designed and manufactured by the Japanese company "Japan Porlex" in Kagoshima, Japan.

All of their products are proudly made in Japan with their craftsmanship.

I got to know about the Porlex grinder because I was born and raised in Japan and I found many of the specialty coffee shops sell Porlex.

Each click is 37 microns and you can enjoy from fine-grind like espresso grind to coarse-grind like pour-over or french press.

Since all of the parts are made from either stainless or ceramic, so you can easily wash them and use it for a long time.

It weights only about 250g so you can bring it to your outdoor activities as well.

How to use Porlex Hand Grinder?

I will explain how to use Porlex and this paragraph will show you
  1. The name of each part of Porlex
  2. How to assemble Porlex?
  3. How to adjust the grind setting?

Name of each part

The name of each part is as written in the above picture.

How to assemble Porlex

I would like to share how to assemble Porlex with pictures of each step.

1 Assemble inner blades together.

↓It looks like this after you assemble the inner blades together

2 Insert outer blades into the body part.

3 Assemble inner blades, outer blades, and body together.

A hollowed side should be facing toward the body side like above.

4 Assemble the screw and tighten it till you can not tighten it anymore.

5 It should look like the one below.

6. Assemble the container part.

7 Now you are ready to grind the coffee beans.

How to adjust the grind setting?

Adjusting the grind setting of Porlex is very easy.

You tighten the screw part till the end and it is the setting "0".

You want to loosen the screw counterclockwise and each time you hear the click sound, you are loosening the "1" level closer to the coarse setting.

The first sound you hear will be setting "1", so I will share the commonly used setting for each brew method.

2: Espresso
11: Paper Filter
12: Hot Aeropress
14: French press, Iced Aeropress

How to use Aeropress; all you need to know if you are a beginner is the article that you want to read out if you are a complete beginner of the Home barista or Aeropress.

When you wash it, you simply disassemble all parts and everything is washable.
Wash without washing machine and dry naturally.

Overall review of Porlex Hand Grinder

As there are much more expensive coffee grinders, porlex is excellent in its cost-efficiency.

Porlex is portable, resistible, and cost-efficient.

It can be your very first coffee hand grinder and also can be your long-term friend.
